We perform classical music—from Gregorian Chant to contemporary composers, tour, and offer young conductors the opportunity to learn and hone their craft.

Maestro Stéphane Potvin planted the seed of the Ensemble in 2005 with the establishment of the Oakville Chamber Choir. During its first year of existence, a total of four singers performed in the choir. It closed its first season with a performance at the 2006 Brott Music Festival in Burlington, Ontario. A year later, the choir expanded to eight singers, presenting its first self-produced concert in June 2007. In September of that year, it launched its first full five-program concert season. By then the Ensemble had ten singers and a newly-formed professional orchestra. The Oakville Ensemble was born.

At the beginning of the 2008 – 2009 season the choir radically changed its rehearsal schedule, adopting the format of most professional choirs, rehearsing intensely in the days preceding each concert. At the same time, soloistic chamber music became a new feature in the Ensemble’s performances, with its first concert showcasing members of the instrumental ensemble alone. The group explored new sonic ground in its 2009 – 2010 season, featuring two concerts with an expanded orchestra, including triumphant performances of Handel’s Messiah.
